Lessons Learned

Knowledge based on experience....

Memorial Day 2020

So many years…

So many lives…

So many mothers…

So many wives.

So many children…

Left all alone…

So many parents…

Didn’t come home.

So many wars…

So many kinds…

So many dreams…

Never to shine.

So many battles…

So many plans…

So many lost…

Child, woman, and man.

So many people…

Left in the dust…

So many times

Saying, “In God we trust.”

So many actions…

Contradicting our words…

So many arguments…

So very absurd.

So many times…

So many egos…

So many leaders…

Trampled their foes.

So many of them…

Declaring the fight…

While all of them…

Sleep at home every night.

So many prayers…

Spoken and unsaid…

So many warriors…

Too many dead.

Many like to quote,

“Freedom isn’t free.”

All the while relaying,

“But, please don’t send me.”

So on this day…

We count the cost.

Never forget…

All the lives lost.

“Get along well with God and be at peace.” Job 22:21

Meandering thoughts…

What to say?

What to do?

So many opinions.

What about you?

What do you think?

Where will you go?

Lots to think about,

But not much to show

All of the people...

Most of the time...

Judging each other -

Come rain or shine.

Leaders argue.

People shrug.

What should we do

About this bug?

Is it a myth?

Is it all hype?

I guess it doesn’t matter

Unless it’s your life.

Perhaps we’ve been duped...

Perhaps we are dumb...

“Expert” opinions -

From everyone.

The economy crashed.

Bank accounts fell.

We don’t really care

Who’s feeling well.

Masks are a joke;

Yet, bring some people peace.

Others can’t stand them.

They search for release.

Tempers are flaring...

Emotions are high...

So much confusion -

Who? When? Where? And, why?

One thing is certain -

Division abounds.

One side will stand.

The other will drown.

What if this is a lesson?

A precursor of sorts?

If we’re being tested,

I fear we fall short.

“Then the LORD said to Cain, ‘Where is your brother Abel?’ ‘I don't know,’ he replied. ‘Am I my brother's keeper?’” Genesis 4:9

One week ago today,

You went to live with Jesus.

While we don’t fully understand,

We know that His death frees us.

We will miss your words of wisdom.

We will miss your company.

We will remember your life as we hang on

To all the memories.

A part of our world has disappeared.

A part of our hearts went with it.

A full measure of your love remains.

Despite death, we won’t dismiss it.

God is good all the time!

He is present in despair.

We are totally confident

That we will meet you there.

Goodbye is not forever.

Our grief will soon subside.

Please say hello to those we miss.

In His love, we will abide.

“And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides forever.” 1 John 2:17

A Virus…

It’s not political.

It’s not scientific.

It’s very personal,

And it’s horrific.

It doesn’t discriminate

Against rich or poor.

But, it’s a proven fact

The weakest die more.

The strong complain

Their lives are interrupted.

While the weak die alone…

Alone and suffering.

Red and yellow

Black and white

While we are precious in His site,

The virus doesn’t care

What we look like.

Regardless of opinion,

Many still die.

We are so divided

We can’t tell truth

From lies.

What we really don’t need

Is armchair quarterbacks.

It’s totally useless

To point out

What our leaders lack.

Has anyone stopped to consider

This just might be how God delivers

His people from the ongoing fight

Of which side is wrong

And which side is right?

Can we entertain

The strange notion

That God is alive

And His love is in motion?

What if it’s true

And He is asking us

To stop debating?

To simply trust.

I don’t know a lot,

But in one thing I’m sure –

This will continue until we’ve learned

What He wants us to learn.

Consider this a call to prayer

Remembering that there is

A God out there.

Consider this a bold statement:

God isn’t using this to punish our nation.

Just consider – being willing to entertain

A very viable possibility

That He is calling you by name.

A call to all Christians;

And Jews;

Even those who don’t believe in anything –

God loves you.

It’s Easy

It’s easy to panic.

It’s easy to stress.

It’s easy to overeat

Forgetting to rest.

It’s easy to wonder.

It’s easy to cry.

It’s easy to doubt,

Living life with a sigh.

It’s easy to worry.

It’s easy to fear.

It’s easy to question

If God is near?

It’s easy to stop.

To just take a break.

It’s easy to focus

On that which is great.

It’s easy to step outside

To enjoy sunshine.

It’s easy to read

And not focus on time.

It’s easy to pray.

It’s easy to release.

It’s easy to let go.

These actions bring peace.

It’s easy to remember

That God is not surprised.

Trust Him instead of asking

The nagging and easy, “Why?”

“For salvation that comes from trusting Christ—which is what we preach—is already within easy reach of each of us; in fact, it is as near as our own hearts and mouths.” Romans 10:8

Ugly, Ugly…All Around

“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” Proverbs 15:1

Why choose ugly?

Let’s choose sweet!

Smile and speak

To those we meet.

When watching TV,

Let’s take a breath.

Perhaps say a prayer?

Don’t post just yet.

Why do we think

We need to criticize

Why do we think

We’re the smartest one alive?

If we have a choice

Can’t we choose love?

Choose to forgive

Instead of holding a grudge.

If we choose ugly,

Peace is never found.

We miss the good

When it comes around.

Choosing ugly

Becomes a habit.

It’s up to us to

Do something about it.

Encourage others

By what we say.

Walk away from arguments.

Choose, instead, to pray.

Ugly is as ugly does.

Ugly doesn’t reflect

Christ’s forgiving love.

Ugly, ugly…all around.

If ugly is what they see in us,

Christ cannot be found.

When you are down and feeling low,

Do not fret.

God knows.

When life seems unfair and nothing works,

Talk to God.

Give Him your hurt.

When sickness takes over and you are weak,

Know God is with you.

He’ll bring you peace.

When everyone is arguing and love cannot be found,

Reach for God.

He is always around.

When others doubt, deny and debate…

Continue to believe.

Stand firm in your faith!

When you don’t think this world can get much worse,

Look up to God.

He will reclaim this earth.
