Integrity: A Dying Attribute

“The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.” Proverbs 11:3

Integrity is defined as, “the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.” I confess. I’ve been sidetracked by the lack of integrity I’ve observed lately. Both on a small scale and a grander one.

The word duplicity in this verse stands out to me. Duplicity is the direct opposite of integrity. Speaking out of both sides of one’s mouth, double standards, multiple personalities depending on who we are talking to at the time or being two faced are not indications of integrity. These traits certainly fall under the tendency of duplicity

The lack of integrity being displayed in our society is frightening. Who can you believe? Who can you trust? Then God reminds me, He sees all. He knows all. He is not caught off guard by the lack of integrity. I need only to focus and work on myself. My integrity and my trustworthiness are all I can maintain. He will take care of the rest.

When life is overwhelming and people let you down, handle with prayer. Praying defends integrity. Pretending destroys it.
