Let it go down in history...
“History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new.” Ecclesiastes 1:9
He was a spoiled kid who thought the world was at his beckoned call. And, they were.
He grew into a moody, impulsive, womanizer who had multiple wives and children by multiple women. Some of his children received his favor. Some did not. It depended on how he felt at the time.
He treated those he led the same way. The rich received his favor. The poor were ignored. If you crossed him, there’d be hell to pay. His temper was immature and ugly. He pitched yelling, screaming, ranting tantrums trying to beat those around him into submission. Many followed him knowing his decisions were not fair, just, or Christ-based.
He claimed to value all life. His actions spoke louder than words. Well, when people were willing to examine his behavior instead of buying into his rhetoric. He claimed religion if it allowed him to be idolized and worshipped. Anyone who didn’t share his views were talked about openly. They were belittled and rejected. Name calling was his favorite defense mechanism. If the truth be known, he was a sad soul and an insecure man.
One thing about it, he totally changed the face of “faith.” He’s the king of meshing Church and State into one hot mess! He, unlike any before him, divided the spiritual teachings in his nation pitting brother against brother and sister against sister. His form of spirituality had an essence of Christianity but was lacking compassion and humility.
I’m talking about King Henry VIII. Bet you thought I was talking about someone else.
