God loves you, unless...
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” 1 Corinthians 13:1
Most of us, as Christ followers, claim to believe that it was love that motivated God when establishing a spiritual salvation relationship through Jesus Christ. We recite, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but will have everlasting life.” Love spawned reconciliation.
We claim to believe that God is love; therefore, we should love one another. We recite, “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” Love is the bedrock of unity and understanding.
We claim to believe God is love and that NOTHING can separate us from His love once we’ve established a relationship with Christ. We recite, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Love creates an unbreakable bond.
In fact, before Christ was even born, we know that God loved us despite our sins through the prophet Jeremiah’s words, “The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.’” God’s love is unconditional. Forever.
Despite what we say, most of us draw our own self-induced lines at something. I’ve observed Christians who sing of God’s love, but say that God loves you unless:
You are homosexual.
You have too many tattoos.
You belong to the wrong denomination.
You don’t attend church at all.
You frequently visit bars.
You are a Democrat.
You are a strong, assertive woman.
You drink too much.
You are addicted to drugs.
You allow your children to attend public schools.
You believe in immunizations.
You support reproductive rights and medical privacy.
You are a Clinton, Joe Biden, or Barak Obama.
You believe Christian America made lots of mistakes and it’s time to correct them instead of denying them.
You believe God’s created earth matters more than man’s money.
You support Trump.
Interesting. God may be love, but many of us who claim to belong to Him certainly are stingy with ours. You see, when we claim to represent God without truly loving others, we are simply making a lot of noise. Pssssttt: They can’t hear Him over us!
