Last Man Standing
“When the LORD began to speak through Hosea, the LORD said to him, ‘Go, marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the LORD.’” Hosea 1:2
Ok. I admit when I am wrong. I was wrong about the hoopla surrounding the cancellation of the television show, “Last Man Standing.” I was just being catty. Personally, I think making the move to FOX added to their appeal. It certainly allowed them to tell great jokes on their first FOX episode based on a competing channel’s cancellation.
I watched Last Man Standing when it premiered many moons ago. I tried to laugh but found it kind of boring. I must admit I based my critique of the cancellation uproar on that first season. I simply didn’t think the show was that great. HOWEVER, (here is the part where I admit I am wrong), we are now watching the reruns. The newer seasons are MUCH funnier.
I still don’t agree that it was cancelled on a major network simply because Tim Allen’s character was pro Trump. I mean, get serious, the episode with him dressing like Trump for Halloween wasn’t complimentary, in my opinion. It was very much “tongue-in-cheek” political humor. Could it be the show went off the air because, after 9 seasons, the writers simply were ready to move on?
I think this experience continues to show the undertone of modern Christianity. We assume the worst. We seem to want to carry a banner that says, “The world is mean to us!” I am not saying it isn’t happening. I am simply asking, “Why is that what you want to talk about?”
His name is, “Jesus.” He is God in human form. His Spirit is called the, “Holy Spirit.” It’s called that because God’ Spirit, through our relationship with Christ, reveals His holiness to us. Well, when we’re paying attention instead of watching TV looking for new reasons to be mad at the world. His Spirit should have top billing in our lives. Our spiritual growth and nourishment must come from Him.
Whether it’s Last Man Standing, the American flag, a candidate, or a wave in the ocean, if we are placing our faith in anything other than Jesus Christ Himself, we are unfaithful. Not the world. Not the media. Not the Millennials. If the fight we take to the streets is a way to demand respect, demand uniformity, or to demand that our TV shows keep running, as Christ’s Bride – WE are unfaithful.
Yes, I was wrong. Last Man Standing eventually became funny. I know that is what the world needs and is waiting on: my approval.
Get faithful by being faith-filled. Seriously. You want the world to become serious about the Gospel? Tell His story and stop griping about everything else. Please.
