Something to talk about….
“But, speaking the truth in love, we may grow up in all things into Him, who is the head, Christ Himself.” Ephesians 4:15
Who is talking to you? Who is teaching you? We are never so smart or spiritually mature that teaching no longer has a place in our lives. Until God calls us home, we should be learning.
As a teacher of God, I serve as His spokesperson when I am invited to any group or any church. To be honest, there are times I’ve been invited only to be uninvited; even within my own church. People tend to want to hear the easy stuff; most especially from women. Often, I’m asked to be nice – not strong. When I receive a call to lead or speak, I ask what is the group needing? To be:
Challenged (Are you looking to grow?)
Consoled (Have you or are you experiencing pain?)
Celebrated (Do you need a boost or a pat on the back?)
Many churches are moving to area-wide events with big-named speakers. It’s often safer to go with what you know and prevent too many side discussions. But, in doing so, have we reduced the intimacy needed for a church or group to bond?
Balance is needed. We can’t always toot our own horns. We need to be challenged more often in order to s t r e t c h our faith and develop a deeper understanding of one another. And, God.
We may need to be consoled after a difficult time. Perhaps your group or church needs encouragement? Or do you need to celebrate and set new goals to celebrate the same time next year?
There is a proper time for everything and every message. Don’t be afraid to continue supporting large events or your favorite speakers. Just remember, they had to start somewhere. It might just be time for you to open your heart to something new from someone different.
