In my opinion...
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
I wonder how many people will click on the link to my blog since it is entitled, “In my opinion…?” It’s no secret that I am willing to share what I think and say how I feel. Yes, I am learning to tame my tongue. Still, for this blog, I want to share with you that – in my opinion – our country has lost the attitude of gratitude. We seem angry. We seem angry about everything. I also believe there are those not airing their feelings. It doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t angry. It simply means they don’t plan on telling us what they are feeling.
There seems to be an undertone of “me against them,” “our side/their side,” “We’re right and they are wrong.” Division is ruling the land and most Christians jumped right in. Me, included.
It’s no secret that my family has been experiencing our fair share (well, more than what seems fair) of trials. I’ve learned to talk less and listen more. I’m especially listening to what God has to say to me. He hasn’t changed my personality because, after all, He created it. He is molding me more into His image. I must admit it is exciting work. Who knew that a very old Christian (been one since I was seven years old) has lots more to learn? I believe once we acknowledge our lack of knowledge and understanding, our level of gratitude will skyrocket.
We must be willing to admit we need God more than we need to get our way. Once we become God-reliant, the world slowly fades away. Our reliance on the wrong things will subside.
During one of our recent bad days, I found myself whispering, “I give God glory in all things.” All things. Not some things. Not most things. Not when things are good, but also when things really suck. God deserves glory all day every day, but most especially deserves to be glorified in the bad days. It’s in the bad times we realize just how good He is, in my opinion.
When we are truly grateful to God, we gripe less. Again, in my opinion…
