Moderation

“I have the right to do anything, you say-but not everything is beneficial. I have the right to do anything - but I will not be mastered by anything.” 1 Corinthians 6:12

One of the newest politicians on the scene, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York, recently referred to “Moderates” as wishy washy. Living proof that Ms. Ocasio-Cortez has never met one. Dear Ms. AOC – I am anything BUT wishy washy. Ask anyone who actually knows me.

Our country is experiencing a severe drought in moderation, which in turn signals imbalance everywhere. As some move far left and others move far right, we continue to be deadlocked. Excuse me, AOC, who is that helping? I love this quote regarding moderation, “Moderation avoids extremes, exercises restraint, and is related to self-control. Moderation is a good thing but living a life of moderation is an uphill battle in today’s world. Much of Western culture is saturated with excess.”

Moderates examine both sides and seek middle ground. We aren’t seeking perfection. We know that true justice, true mercy and complete goodness comes with Heaven, not politics. Moderates understand that we live in a great big world with lots of opinions and opposing sides. However, if we plan on functioning in the world until Christ returns, we better start figuring out how to get along. I don’t know about you, but I’m really tired of all the arguing. Our political stands hurt our spiritual witness. Jesus didn’t ask us to be politically active. He commanded us to spread His word.

Christian Moderates uphold Ecclesiastes 3 while following Jesus. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, stop attacking people who do not agree with you. Stop putting down Moderates. I proudly remain an Independent Moderate. Wishy washy has never been a word that describes me.
