“Do not those who plan evil go astray? But those who plan good win steadfast loyalty.” Proverbs 14:22
You are probably tired of hearing it, but I’m 60. I’m passed middle age and entered the final quarter in the football game of life. Who knows how long I will live? I plan to live each day loving the Lord. When He says, “it’s time to go,” I’ll go.
What I’ve learned in my life and through my experiences is the good guy does win. On earth, it often seems the shady characters get all the credit. However, in the end, God’s people win. The real question is: Am I part of God’s people?
Good men can do bad things. Bad men can do good things. God sees past the action and peers straight into the heart. If someone wants to know if they are truly part of God’s family, they need to be willing to do their own heart examination.
What part of you does God get? He wants all of you. He wants our good, our bad, our strengths and our weaknesses. God didn’t call us to perfection. He requests submission and obedience.
When a godly person acts on behalf of God, good things ensue. When we are out of His will and act on impulse based on imperfections, we go astray. Our loving God calls us back, but He seldom removes the consequences of our sin. Oh, He wipes the slate clean. But He also allows us to learn the lesson intended for each decision made.
I taught my children that good choices result in good results. Poor choices bring bad results. However, other people’s good or bad choices also affect us. Ask any child who is a product of a broken home. More often than not, children of divorce end up bearing the brunt of poor choices.
So, am I trying to be a “Debbie Downer?” Absolutely not. I want to encourage us to realize God is in it all – the good and the bad. Bottom line: He wins. Every time. Forevermore.
