Re: Suckers and Vice

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Philippians 2:3-4

We all make mistakes. Unless we keep to ourselves, keep our mouth shut all the time or live life never making any decisions, mistakes are a natural byproduct of our humanity. The Bible refers to it as “sin nature.” We all have it. (Pssssttt…Jesus is the answer.)

As a military mother who has watched her son’s entire life change in an instant and whose family has paid dearly, I’m deeply disturbed by a President telling active duty military in a war zone that America isn’t going to be suckers anymore. Uh...wasn’t there a more mature, sensitive way to approach this issue? I guess the “We’re-not-going-to-be-the-911-for-the-world” argument ran its course, huh? (I know...I know…you don’t like me getting political. It’s okay if everything else is politicized, but not my blog?)

Within 24 hours of hearing our President tell troops fighting overseas that he views us as “suckers,” I watched the movie “Vice.” Again, as a military mama, I think Dick Cheney’s story is worth telling. I believe Hollywood got it 25% correct, which is a depressing realization of history. But, I’m just not sure telling it from the perspective of a soldier being Cheney’s heart donor was the best angle to tackle the tale. Irony or cruelty?

Then, I’m told Trump gave away SEAL coordinates. When Joe Biden was our Vice President, he ratted out a SEAL team. They were attacked and killed as a result. One SEAL mother went on national TV to support Trump due to Biden’s slip of the tongue. (Wonder if her candidate and our President looks the same to her now? Does he get a pass because “R” follows his name?)

As a military mother, I really do wish we would learn something from Vietnam. Stop using our dedicated military as pawns, photo opps, film extras, and political hostages. These men and women leave home and go where they are told to go in order to do what our nation’s leaders tell them to do. If anyone deserves respect, it’s them.
