Keeper of Secrets
“Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
You are so stoic in the secrets you keep.
To keep a secret a secret, you can’t be beat.
Yet, the truth is some secrets need to be told.
Your insistence on silence makes love wax cold.
You play to the middle acting unaware;
Not realizing some secrets need to be shared.
Still, you judge those of us left in the dark.
Blaming us for the broken heart.
The heart is broken not by what is said.
The brokenness happens when communication is dead.
Relationships are hard enough
For you to mistake loyalty with a lack of trust.
The person harboring hurt may not know what to do.
Your failure to share with others reflects badly on you.
Open communication creates transparency.
Being on the same page is our only remedy.
What I’m asking is when it comes to me,
You may trust others who love me.
Set my secrets free.
The saying, “Some things are better left unsaid,”
Creates division allowing gossip to spread.
It’s not always a matter of someone’s privacy.
At times, it’s a matter of unhealthy secrecy.
As the friendships die, you never know…
Your refusal to share seems more like ego.
In this friendship circle, what you see as trust
Just might be the end of us.
