Go, Team, Go!
“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives.” 2 Peter 3:10-11
Holy: dedicated or consecrated to God or a religious purpose; sacred
Godly: devout, dedicated, prayerful, spiritual
When John wrote the Book of Revelations, he thought Christ’s second coming was just around the corner. The Early Christians thought Jesus literally meant He’d be right back when He promised to return. Not much has changed.
There are those of us who go to great lengths to try and figure out when to expect Christ to appear on the scene. I constantly hear how bad things have gotten and how the world can’t get much worse. I tend to disagree. History reveals things can get much worse.
I wonder what would happen if we stopped focusing on when Christ will return and focused, instead, on loving others? What would happen if we literally followed in Christ’s footsteps by living for God and worked to build an eternal kingdom? You know what would happen? We’d believe the above verses. We aren’t supposed to know when He will return. We are supposed to act like Him while we wait.
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “There is no ‘I’ in the word team.” There is, however, an “I” at the center of ChrIst. God’s children will be holy and godly when we play as a team focusing on Christ. We must find our true center in Him. Things will continue to worsen on the outside, but our Light will shine all the more brighter on the inside!
