How Did We Get Here?
How did we get where we are in our country? The news has moved from sad to bizarre to downright despicable. Regardless of which side you are on, we must admit our country is a mess.
We traveled to Las Vegas for several days to catch some shows. We followed ventriloquist Terry Fator since his AGT win ten years ago. What can I say? We love a man who talks through puppets.
Then, there’s Reba.
I must admit I didn’t really know Reba’s concert partners, Brooks and Dunn. I mean I’ve heard of them. I just didn’t follow their careers. The concert was an amazing experience.
Reba sang a song from her gospel album. One line in the song, Back to God says, “Can't go on like this and live like this. We can't love like this. We gotta give this world back to God.”
How do we give the world back to God? I believe it starts in our hearts and in our spirits. I think we go back to goodness, decency, fairness, concern, truth and justice. In other words, we act more like Him and less like children.
While we are God’s children, we are not spoiled brats. We are blessed. We are witnesses. We are light. When the world grows dark, we should shine. In my opinion, we’ve stopped shining. We’re whining.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13
What am I suggesting? Let’s allow God to fill us; not news. Not opinion. Let’s find joy and peace in our faith. Not in money. Not in politics. If we do so, the Holy Spirt can empower us. When we are empowered by Him, our division dissolves. Our focus becomes unity. Our unity has a greater affect than our division.
The world needs us because the world needs Him. Let’s give this world back to God. Handing it over to anyone else is idolatry.
