“I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble and suffering, but take courage—I have conquered the world.” John 16:33
The year 2017 was an interesting one. Some of those closest to me experienced difficult circumstances. My family alone experienced illness, death, emergencies, loss of jobs, etc. The list is extensive, and it is depressing.
We have very close friends who experienced equally-trying and devastating circumstances. I think 2017 will go down in history as a very difficult year for individuals and for our country.
You most likely heard me say or read in my blog that I am unsure how people without faith survive this world. While there are many good things (and I’m looking forward to all of them in 2018), life can be tough; real tough. Our God is tougher.
Jesus tried His best to educate those around Him while He walked the earth. Many of the things He spelled out to His followers were dismissed because they simply did not want to hear what He had to say. Aren’t we guilty of the same thing? I know I am. Human beings have a tendency to see things as we choose to see them; not as they are in reality. I tend to try and make things work out the way I want them to or I become the spoiled baby pouting before the Lord. How dare He be God?
These words (verse above) came straight from the mouth of Jesus. He faced the same emotional and physical pain that we do every day. He kept going. Not because He was God, but because He was Man who depended on God.
Dependence isn’t something that comes naturally to strong-willed people like me. Releasing and trusting are actions I find very difficult to apply. However, the entire bible spells out to us that if we will trust God, He will see us through.
Peace has a Prince. His name is Jesus. I want to belong to His kingdom. How about you?
