I’m going to share something knowing that 50% of you will read this blog, shake your head and say, “Yep...she's lost it.” I believe the Holy Spirit prompted me to go to the movie today. Alone.
The alone part is significant because I typically do not go to the movie alone. I can only think of three times in my entire life that I’ve done so. (And, it has been a long life.) Another fact that made the prompting unusual is it came during nap time. There aren't many things that keep me from taking a nap when I'm on vacation.
I know that I know that I know that I was meant to go the movie. I also know that I was meant to see, “Wonder Woman.” Have I lost you, yet?
I realize it's only a movie. I realize it's a fantasy based on a comic book character. Yet, I still know that I know that I know I was meant to see it.
The movie is based on mythological characters - false gods. A movie of this type isn’t typically what I choose to see. I didn't go to watch the movie because I believe everything about the story. I didn’t go because I am a great fan of Wonder Woman. (Although I did like women kicking men’s butts!) I went being obedient knowing that God wanted me there.
The movie is about strong women. I haven’t been feeling particularly strong lately. The movie is about a woman with a strong desire to do the right thing, to help people, and to make the world a better place. She opened her eyes (and heart) to the best and worst of mankind.
As I walked up to the theater to purchase my ticket, I prayed, “Lord, I know You want me here. I don't know why and I know nobody will ever believe this story, but I believe You. I am here because I believe You have a message. I am opening my spiritual ears to hear Your spiritual message through a silly fantasy film. In faith, I am listening. I know You talked to Moses through a burning bush. You've talked through a donkey and You've worked with a fleece to prove Your point. You can certainly choose to speak through a movie. I exercise my faith beyond reason knowing I will understand Your message when I hear it. You've used one or two lines in secular movies before to change my life. I accept that You have something to teach me through this movie. I am open to learning. Amen, Lord Jesus, amen.”
Here is what I heard:
“The battle is never fair.”
“You're stronger than you think you are; don't hide from your strength!”
“The only thing that can save the world is love.”
You may not believe that God encouraged me through the movie Wonder Woman but I know that He did. He is a personal and powerful God. The world needs God’s love. We are the bearers of that love. We really need to leave the wrath part up to Him.
If we are willing to study our bible,
We learn the condition of man.
We, alone, can’t change things –
But we, with God, can.
