Freedom – We love it when it’s ours.
It’s Veteran’s Day. I can’t help but think of those who bravely fought to serve and preserve this country. Regardless of what the pulse of the nation was at the time, they stood up and said, “I’ll go.” If you don’t respect that, you probably need to just go ahead detach from the human race.
Freedom is a beautiful thing. One which most of us take for granted. We have the ability to make all that we can of our life and when we feel someone or something is standing in our way, we have the right to protest. Many died so that everyone has the right to speak, write, stand, sit, march or walk away.
Freedom is a beautiful thing unless or until someone else’s freedom interferes with our peaceful existence. I believe God encourages us to listen to and hear each and every voice asking, “What’s the message?” But, we really don’t want to hear the message. We enjoy attacking the messengers far too much to try and listen to their anger or pain. We want to tell them to shut up, sit down, and grow up.
You know what? We have the freedom to tell them that. I’m just not convinced we have the right.
“Do not hold us accountable for the sins of earlier generations! Quickly send your compassion our way, for we are in serious trouble! Help us, O God, our deliverer! For the sake of your glorious reputation, rescue us! Forgive our sins for the sake of your reputation!” Psalm 79:8-9
