Examine the Fruit

Galatians 5:22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

I sat with a friend today who, like the rest of us, is lamenting over which candidate to support in this year’s election. It’s a tough one, isn’t it?

Let’s cut to the chase and put all the accusations and rumors aside, shall we? Please re-read the verses listed above. Fruits of the Spirit are evident in the life of a Believer. While we are human and cannot possess them or display them 100% of the time, our life (as a whole) will reflect some of them most of the time. If our life does not reflect some of them most of the time, we might want to re-examine our relationship with Christ.

Here’s a suggestion: Turn off the TV. Stop listening to ANY news. Don’t read the latest scandals online or in the newspaper. Begin researching these two people prior to their decision to run for this election. Don’t ask your spouse what they think. Don’t ask your best friend how they plan to vote. Do some research – authentic research – and see what fruits these two fruitcakes display more often in their lives.

Where should you go?  Wikipedia is a GREAT place to start.  Too liberal? Then, why are you concerned about what WikiLeaks is releasing?  You apparently believe WikiLeaks so why not give Wikipedia a try? Better yet, go to your public library and read non-fiction books about factual events in the lives of these two individuals. Or is the public library too liberal for you?

My suspicion is we already know who we need to vote for because we’ve been praying about it for so long and so intensely.  My suspicion is we are more bothered by the fact we might have to tell someone who we plan to vote for and we know they most likely will not understand.

Guess what? They don’t have to understand. God does.

If you examine the lives of these two individuals from a documentary point of view and cannot find any fruit in either one of them, I suspect the problem isn’t them. And, that’s all I am gonna say about that.
