Tick Tock Goes the Clock
I believe I know how my grandparents must have felt during the World War I and World War II eras. It feels as though the entire world is sitting on a powder keg just waiting to ignite.
Some people are focusing on the negative. They buy into the anger and the distrust. They saturate their lives with concern and criticism. I cannot find faith in that mindset. I'm sorry. I am not judging these folks. I am sharing that, for me, that kind of faith is weak and gives mankind entirely too much power.
Other people are trying their best to focus on the positive. We pray allowing our elected officials, with access to the important details of the problems, to work out the problems. Isn't that why we hold elections? Isn't trust part of a democracy where the majority rules?
Let's talk about the Christian response, shall we? I hope you know by now that my blog tries to focus on the lessons I have learned through various life experiences. This comment isn't said in arrogance. Quite the opposite! God has mellowed me with age as He did with His disciple Peter. Yea...I know...kind of scary. This is mellow me.
God promises His presence - always. He doesn't say that He will abandon us - ever. He does teach us, however, that He will turn His face away from those who are evil:
Psalm 34:15-16, "The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to blot out their name from the earth."
We are on the Lord's time clock. While we may recognize WHAT is evil, only God knows WHO is truly evil. God sends His word, signs, promptings, sermons, and people to reveal what is evil. It's my job to obey. It's His job to deal with those who do not obey. To think otherwise is referred to as a "messiah complex." We feel we are wise enough to do God's job for Him. Absurd, huh? Yet it is happening all around us.
I share this to say that I am going to focus on MY behavior. I cannot possibly change the world. I can show God that I am yielding and submitting my heart for His change in me. When people see me change maybe it will encourage them to change, too.
I can't promise that I won't ever slip and fall. Truthfully, I slip and fall every day; every hour; every minute; all the time. I can tell you that I continue to be in the process of Christ's salvation. As the clock ticks down, I depend on Him to sound the alarm moving me to His right side and moving me away from that which is evil.
Father, touch our lives with Your healing hand. Lord, touch our world with Your healing hand. Lord, please keep Your eye on us and convict us when evil rules so that we can make changes. Strengthen our elected officials to have courage and compassion to make necessary changes. Father, we want to remain under Your watchful eye. Please keep an eye on us. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.
