The Most Beautiful Sound - EVER!
Today is my birthday. I am officially 58 years old and only two years away from turning 60. I am not the least bit concerned about turning 60, because 60 is the “new 30.”
My day began by doing one of my most favorite things – sleeping in. I have pajamas that say, “I love sleep,” and I do. My sweet husband, Tommy, posted a picture and message to me on Facebook. The picture was taken during our 35th wedding anniversary cruise to Cozumel. I look a little bit heavier in that picture. That’s another reason 58 doesn’t bother me. I am probably in the best physical shape that I have been in for a long time. Thank you, Weight Watchers. Thank you, FitBit. If you are my age, I do not need to explain. You understand.
I’ve heard from my sons. I love my sons. I am not sure my sons understand just how much I love them. If you are a mother, I do not need to explain. You understand.
Nobody loves my sons like their mama. In fact, I wrote a song about it. Perhaps I will be asked to perform the song during our taping of Family Feud next week? If you watch Family Feud, I do not need to explain. You understand.
I spent last Sunday with my grandchildren. Have I told you how precious my grandchildren are to me? I am transitioning, as I had to do with my sons, into the realization that my grandkids are teens now and they really do not need me telling them every move to make. I must be willing to allow them to make some of their own decisions. Ugh. If you are a grandparent, I do not need to explain. You understand.
My co-workers presented me with a very special card containing handwritten messages from each of them, including our three student interns. Cards mean a lot to me. Writing means a lot to me. The Shipley’s Devils Food donut they gave me really meant a lot. Don’t worry. I counted the points on Weight Watchers. If you are trying to lose weight, I don’t have to explain. You understand.
My text mailbox, my Facebook account, my Facebook Messenger account, LinkedIn, email, and Twitter all came alive beginning at 1:00 a.m. today. I have missionary friends overseas. Thank you to everyone and anyone who took the time to wish me a happy birthday. If you are a social media fan, I don’t have to explain. You understand.
My siblings checked in with me to wish me well. My sister in heaven is celebrating with me. She is celebrating with Jesus since I couldn’t make the trip – yet. She didn’t reach her 58th birthday. She is in much better shape than me. If you are a Christian, I don’t have to explain. You understand.
I have a summer full of very special trips; one being my long-awaited trip to the Holy Land. I shared with a grocery store clerk that I was going to the Holy Land. She asked, “What is the Holy Land?” Sweet Jesus. Oh, my. If you are worried about Christianity in America, I don’t have to explain. You understand.
I am not bragging. I am blessed and I know it. But, you know what the most beautiful sound was on my birthday today? My 80-something year old parents sang “Happy Birthday” to me over the telephone. I closed my eyes. I smiled. I listened to each and every word and note coming from their voices. I want to freeze that moment in my mind.
If you are a child, I don’t need to explain. You understand.
