Criminal

I love watching true-life mysteries. I don’t want them too graphic or gross, but I am amazed at the way the human mind works; both in its brilliance and its depravity. While God created man and God is sovereign over all realms, man controls that realm which controls man’s own spirit. Whose side are you on?

I think I could spend an entire rainy day watching episode after episode of true-life dramas. I surf the channels, watch the TV Guide, and DVR episodes regardless of whether they are new or repeats.

The Bible teaches in 1 John 2:16 that the source of depravity is sin – wrongdoing. It says, “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.” Sin wasn’t God’s intention. Mankind chose it. We continue to choose it every day in varying degrees. We choose it based on what we feel, what we see and what we want for ourselves. Faith constantly moves away from a self-based life and releases our will to the Father of Truth. Our lust can be replaced by His love if we are willing. Moving away from sin is a constant battle throughout our lives. No one is immune and no one has mastered sin. Except for Jesus.

The real criminal in our true-life drama is Satan. He was once the bright and shining star of Heaven named Lucifer. Lucifer is one of three Archangels mentioned in the Bible. He rebelled against God and was tossed out of Heaven. Satan is the father of lies and spends his time tempting us to rebel against God by appealing to the lust of our flesh, the lust of our eyes and our ego – the pride of life. When Satan can trap us and lead us astray, he is able to hurt God all over again. The story isn’t a dark mystery or a sci-fi flick. It is the true battle between good and evil. The battle is fought in the spiritual realm. We are simply tokens on the game board.

You can doubt the story. Doubt doesn’t diminish God’s power. You can choose not to believe any of it at all. Unbelief only strengthens Satan’s power. Our unbelief is Satan's victory.

Be careful out there....
